Project Details

The project involved excavation between the Hal C. Weaver Power Plant and Chilled Station No. 6 to access the concrete lid of an underground tunnel and chamber. The excavation, reaching a depth of 14 feet, was conducted using hydro excavation due to the dense network of utilities in the area.

The primary goal was to install a new concrete slab to replace the existing one, which was in poor condition and posed a risk of collapse. During the excavation, an electrical duct bank was discovered, necessitating its support with a steel cradle. Additionally, before demolishing the existing lid, engineered shoring was installed underneath to protect the steam pipes running through the tunnel.

The project required meticulous coordination due to the restricted access and the complex utility environment.
